A manufactured masonry cement takes the guesswork out of proportioning. Every bag carries the same balance of cementitious material, plasticizers, and air-entraining agents, so the mortar behaves the same batch to batch. The entrained air adds resistance to freeze-thaw damage, an advantage that shows up years later over other mortar-making materials with lower entrained air contents.
