Badger Plant Community Relations

The Badger plant has been part of Milwaukee since 2003, and the relationship between this facility and the community around it has been built the way most lasting relationships are: through consistent presence, direct communication, and investment that does not require an audience to happen.

Arrière-plan

The Badger plant sits on the western shore of Lake Michigan, in a city that runs on industry that expects its neighbours to carry their weight. The people who run this plant live in the surrounding neighbourhoods, and the plant’s standing in Milwaukee depends on being a genuine, everyday presence, not just an industrial address on Carferry Drive.

Our approach to community involvement at Badger follows the same principles we apply across the network: open communication, sustained investment, and a commitment that extends beyond plant operations. The Badger plant is part of that broader commitment, guided by the Our VC Way principles of Sustainable Legacy and Trust and Simplicity. Across the Votorantim Cimentos North America (VCNA) network, our businesses have contributed approximately $1.6 million USD over five years to community causes focused on health and wellness, veterans and emergency services, and education. Milwaukee is part of that investment.

Notre histoire

The Badger plant joined the St Marys Cement network in 2003, and its community ties have been building since. Trust develops slowly in a place like Milwaukee, through years of consistent presence, neighbourly investment, and follow-through on commitments made publicly and privately.

The plant’s production record carries its own community significance. In 2023, St Marys Cement received national recognition from the Slag Cement Association for sustainable concrete applications in Wisconsin, including work at 333 North Water Street in Milwaukee and Excellerate Manufacturing in Appleton. These were technical performance assessments of completed structures, and they reflect the quality of product this plant delivers to the construction projects that shape the city and region around it.

Contact and Committee Members

Questions and concerns about the Badger plant are always welcome. Residents can reach the plant community contact directly, and a local committee reviews issues raised by neighbours and reports back on what is being done.

Trust and Simplicity, one of the nine principles of Our VC Way, means a clear point of contact, a structured process for feedback, and a genuine commitment to following up. We do not consider a question answered until the person who asked it knows what happened.

Community Efforts

The Badger team invests in the next generation, directing community energy toward youth programs, educational initiatives, and neighbourhood spaces that serve the communities closest to the plant. Sustained, specific investment in the places where our people live and work is what the Sustainable Legacy principle at the heart of Our VC Way actually demands, and it is the standard this team holds itself to.
