McInnis Cement Plant

The McInnis Cement Plant sits on the southern shore of the Gaspé Peninsula, where the waters of Chaleur Bay rarely freeze, and ships move product year-round. This geography is not incidental; it is the reason the plant was founded here.

From Port-Daniel-Gascons, the plant connects the St Marys Cement network to eastern Canada and the northeastern United States, serving customers across a region that older, landlocked operations could not reach as efficiently. The deep-water marine terminal on site gives this facility a distribution reach that is genuinely different from the rest of our network.

Notre histoire

The plant was inaugurated in 2017, making it one of the newer operations under St Marys Cement. In 2019, St Marys Cement acquired the plant and integrated it into the VCNA family of operations. Since that integration, we have continued to invest to improve productivity, efficiency, and environmental performance.

Today the plant employs more than 200 people directly and supports work for up to 1,000 subcontractors, making it one of the largest private employers in the Gaspé region. A strong economic footprint reflects the kind of Lasting Results this network builds toward: investment that keeps paying out long after a construction contract ends.

These documents provide verified, third-party-assessed data on the environmental profile of our cement products from raw material extraction through manufacturing. Community Relations

Port-Daniel-Gascons is a coastal community in a rural region. The economic presence of this plant, more than 200 direct jobs and indirect work for up to 1,000 subcontractors, shapes daily life here in ways that extend well beyond the plant’s boundaries.

St Marys Cement maintains active engagement with community and stakeholder groups, including a dedicated committee with First Nations representatives through the Mi’gmawei Mawiomi Secretariat. These relationships reflect a commitment to the region’s long-term prosperity and a belief in Open Dialogue as the foundation for operating in any community.

Lower Carbon Fuels Initiative

The plant is also actively working to replace a portion of coal and petroleum coke with energy recovered from non-recyclable industrial byproducts through regulated co-processing. These materials are processed under strict environmental controls, and their embedded energy is captured in the kiln, reducing CO2 emissions at the source.
